Chris Hemsworth’s latest role was a family decision.
In fact, the Thor star detailed how his daughter India Rose, 12, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, 10 (whom he shares with wife Elsa Pataky), encouraged him to succeed Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime in Transformers One.
“I asked my kids when the script got sent to me,” he explained to E! News in an exclusive interview alongside costar Brian Tyree Henry. “I was a little bit hesitant, a bit nervous to fill the shoes of Peter Cullen. And they said, ‘Transformers, you have to do it.’"
His kids’ interest in the movie surprised him at first.
“I wasn't even aware that they had watched Transformers much,” he continued. “But you sort of forget it’s everywhere for every generation. It's had an effect. And stood the test of time for many, many reasons.” (For more from Chris and Brian, tune into E! News tonight, Sept. 18, at 11 p.m.)
Of course, Chris’ brood has already gotten a chance to see their dad in action, and they rated the film—in theaters now—with “five out of five” stars.
“They love the film,” Chris gushed. “It's just visually stunning. It's got a great sense of humor, but there's heart at the center and relatable themes for all generations, all ages.”
And while the film—which will jump back in time to be a coming of age for Optimus Prime and Brian’s Megatron—is a hit at home, it can’t compete with his kids’ admiration for the Thor franchise.
“They've watched most of them,” Chris explained. “I think Ragnarok is the one I'll probably go back and watch the most.”

Growing up with dad onscreen, however, has taken away some of that movie magic for his kids.
"They were on set a lot," the Mad Max: Fury Road star previously told E!. "They've seen behind the curtain and understand the tricks. Nothing is pretty shocking to them."
However, to us, the genes of the Hemsworth family is pretty shocking. Read on and see for yourself…
